It's hot and beautiful out around here, and that makes me think of one of our all-time favorite children's books.
(Lord forgive me for linking to Amazon, those of you who can, please ask your local bookseller to order this directly.)
Anyway.
This book is just about perfect, especially for those in the groovy under-6 set, who just sort of wiggle along with the whole reading rhythm. It's a rhyming bounce along the sidewalks on the way to the ice cream truck. And to everyone's delight (well, mine anyway), it ends with an ice-cream cone! And it's soft ice cream, which is my personal favorite. (No specific word on whether it's got a chocolate dip plus peanuts, which is the most awesome, but we do what we can with what we have.) I love the illustrations, I love walking around the city, I love ice cream. Enjoy.
I miss these young, young children's books. We have hundreds and hundreds of them, gathering dust on the bottom shelves...
